5 Reasons to Dance . . . by: South Sound Dance
Dance is an exquisite art form – it’s physical and athletic, emotional and balletic, stimulating and challenging, and social and engaging. It requires us to use both body and mind and is not only a great activity for younger children, but adults too!
Hannah Taylor-Kormondy, owner of the new South Sound Dance in Tumwater, believes that people of all ages and abilities should be able to learn and enjoy dance. Growing up in Houston, Texas Hannah started dancing at age nine under Jazz dance legend Steven Boyd. She then attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts as a dance major receiving a formal education in Ballet and Modern dance. She continued her training and professional career as a freelance dance artist, dancing for choreography projects in New York City, Seattle, and Hawaii. After receiving her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and moving to the Olympia community, Hannah has opened South Sound Dance hoping to inspire people of all ages to dance!
Here are the five reasons you should dance:
One – Dance is a great way to exercise and create healthy body functioning. It encourages blood flow to the cardiovascular and muscular systems increasing metabolic levels while developing strength for bones and muscles. Stretching and generating length and tone in your muscles can also reduce stress levels and improve relaxation.
Two – Dance promotes coordination and balance. Have you ever heard that football players take ballet class? Yes, it’s true! Ballet and other dance classes can teach the necessary techniques for jumping and leaping and developing skills for body awareness and spatial relationships. If you want to improve your game then dance is the place for you!
Three – Dance challenges the brain creating new neural pathways and igniting old ones. It increases your concentration and memory stimulating both children and adults with every day learning and creative development. Dancers are very intelligent and expressive people, often at the top of their graduating classes!
Four – Dance is the perfect place to make new friends! It is a social event for both children and adults where students can share common interests and work toward a common goal. Many students who meet in dance class become friends for life!
Five – Dance invites you to be yourself, to learn about yourself, and encourages you to try new things. If you are looking to try something new, something that will bring you joy then try a dance class at South Sound Dance!
